Jon Huntsman
Former U.S. Ambassador of Singapore from 1992-1993 and of China from 2009-2011 and former Governor of Utah from 2005-2009.
Family
Jon Huntsman graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in international politics.
Career
In 1993 Huntsman became President of the Huntsman Cancer Foundation and later became CEO of Huntsman Family Holdings, a umbrella company for the multibillion-dollar corporation founded by his father. He also was a chairman in his father's company Huntsman Corporation.
Political background
Huntsman started his political career off as a White house staff assistant under President Reagan. He then went on to work under President Bush Sr. as a dupty assistant secretary of commerce and Ambassador to Singapore and as a U.S. trade Representative. Huntsman was elected Governor of Utah in 2004 and again in 2008 where he made the biggest tax cuts in the state's history. He was appointed Ambassador to China in 2008 by President Barak Obama.
Issues
Huntsman is a social conservative. He is a strong supporter of civil unions, but opposes same-sex marriage. Is for overseas trade and jobs. Is Anti-abortion. He supports capitol punishment and rights to bear guns. Doesn't support deporting immigrants. He is a strong supporter for more government funding for healthcare. Huntsman has been a campaigner for the withdraw of troops overseas.
